Calicut University/University of Calicut was established in 1968 at Malappuram, Kerala. The university is Kerala’s largest in terms of territory, associated colleges, and degrees awarded. The university’s motto is “Nirmaya Karmana Sree,” which translates to “prosperity will be generated through pure actions.” The institution has 34 postgraduate departments and 406 affiliated colleges. The university offers great sports facilities, including Asia’s largest natural stadium (1 km in circumference), athletic tracks, grass football fields, synthetic fields, and many more. The university has several prominent alumni, including Dr. P.T. Usha, M.D. Valsamma, Jimmy George (late), Anju George, and others. The alumni list also includes four Padmashree Awardees, one Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee, a Dronacharya Awardee, and 14 Arjuna Awardees. Calicut University, one of Kerala’s oldest universities, has been instrumental in the state’s development.
Calicut University Centre for Distance and Online Education was founded in 1981 and has evolved into a major distance education institute. The institute has thousands of students from around the world. It was previously known as the “Institute of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education”. The university’s mission is to provide unreached people with distance education opportunities.
