Overview of Osmania University Distance Education

Osmania University is the seventh oldest university in the country, the third oldest in South India and the first university established in the princely state of Hyderabad. The university was established in 1918. The university is very famous for their research projects. They have already published around 1400 research papers and 110+ books. Prof. G. Ram Reddy Center for Distance Education was inaugurated in 1977 and has grown into a leading institution in the field of distance education. The center is named after Prof G. Ram Reddy, who was a prominent person in the distance learning field and also the Vice Chancellor of Osmania University for two terms. PGRRCDE provides self paced, flexible, and diversified courses for the benefit of people who were not able to pursue regular courses.

Osmania University Distance Education Admission Process

  • Click on the new admissions button in the website and apply for the online admission process.
  • Select the course and fill out the application form
  • Registration with the details to the portal. 
  • After the registration, pay the fees through online mode. 
  • Submit all the required documents to the portal and submit the application form
  • Print the application form and fee receipt. Wait for the admission confirmation from the university.

Osmania University Distance Education Examination Pattern

Examination Scheme

Students in courses with practical examinations have to pay the fee 500/- (per year / semester) apart from normal examination fee.

There is no “detention” system in distance education. Failed students will be allowed to continue the course of study for the next year, with the following conditions.

  1. In case of PG courses, the candidate should complete the course within four academic years from the date of joining. Those who fail to complete the course within four years have to re-register by paying Rs 500 every year.
  2. Candidates who have completed four years from the year of registration for M.A., M.Com., M.Sc. (Mathematics) and M.Sc. (Statistics) Previous Examinations but if not registered for final year examinations, re-registration fee of Rs.100/-. 1000/- for permission to write their final year examination in addition to the normal examination fee. A similar procedure has to be followed for semester system courses.

III. Candidates who have completed four years from the year of registration and have paid the term fee of the previous year but are not registered and have not paid the examination fee for the previous examinations, have to pay a re-registration fee of Rs.1000 for permission to appear for the previous examinations. Examinations, they are eligible to appear in the final year examination in the next academic year by paying a re-registration fee of Rs.500 every year in addition to the normal examination fee. A similar procedure has to be followed for semester system courses.

Candidates appearing for P.G. Candidates must first register for previous exams. They cannot appear for previous year and final year exam simultaneously if they have not registered for the previous year previous exam.

Internal Assignments

Every student of M.A./ M.Com./M.Sc in I & II year (all four semesters) who have paid examination fee for the first time, must write and submit assignment for each paper in that year / semester. Each assignment carries 20/30 marks as per scheme and syllabus. University exams will be conducted for 80 / 70 marks as per scheme and syllabus. These assignment scripts are evaluated by the concerned faculty. The marks awarded to the candidates will be forwarded to the Controller of Examinations for inclusion in the university examination marks. In case the candidate fails to submit the internal assignments before the due date, the internal marks will not be added to the university examination marks under any circumstances. Assignment marks will not be accepted after the due date. The internal assignment should be submitted only after paying the examination fee for the first time.
