The Periyar University’s directorate for distance education is commonly called as PRIDE i.e. Periyar Institute Of Distance Education. In accordance with the terms of the Periyar University Act, 1997, Tamil Nadu government founded Periyar Institute in Salem, on September seventeen, nineteen-ninety seven. The four districts that make up the University’s coverage area are Salem, Krishnagiri, Namakkal and Dharampuri. The Institute was granted 12(B) and 2(f) status by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, and in 2021 it received a A++ grade for reaccreditation from the NAAC. Also according to MoE NIRF 2023, the institute was ranked fifty nine out of all Indian Universities. The great social reformer E.V. Ramaswamy, also known as “Thanthai Periyar,” is honored by the Periyar University of Distance Education. The Institute seeks to advance knowledge across a range of subjects in order to fulfill the motto “Arival Vilayum Ulagu” which means Wisdom Make the World and is etched on the emblem. The institute’s main goal is the holistic development of the pupils. Normally three channels are used by Periyar University to deliver higher education which are as follows: the Department of Study and Research, the associated colleges and the Periyar University center for Online and Distance Education. Additionally there are hundred thirteen connected colleges and twenty seven departments within the university. Beginning in 2008-09, the institute provides a number of programs that used Choice Based Credit System. The Institute began providing certificate programs in 2009-10 in order to meet the demands of the general population. Examination Pattern over Periyar University Distance Education program follows two prime components which are as follows: Online Examination and Internal Assessment
Online Examination typically contains two prime parts and are necessary to attend where the first part is all about multiple choice questions which carries a weightage of twenty five marks and individually every question carries one mark. Now moving to the next part
which has eight questions is a subjective type of questions carrying ten marks each and the scholars need to attempt five questions out of eight. Both first and second part results in a total of seventy five marks.
Internal Assessment which is conducted through the learning management system contains an extra part compared to Online Examination i.e. a total of three parts where every part contains two subparts. Under twenty five marks of multiple choice questions and subjective based tests, learners will be awarded the marks of the part in which they have scored a maximum.
