The University of Kerala was founded by Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the King of Travancore in 1937 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is the 16th university in India and it was originally named as University of Travancore. The university’s main campus is situated over 250 acres in the capital city of Kerala. University of Kerala provides UG, PG, doctoral degrees in various disciplines like science, arts, management, law, engineering, etc. During these years, the university have earned many prominent alumni members who are active in politics, arts, literature, sports, and science.
School of Distance Education, University of Kerala was established in 1976 to provide education through flexible and accessible means to students. SDE offers UG programs, PG programs, diploma programs, certificate courses in the fields of literature, science, arts, commerce and humanities. The medium of study is English except for a few language courses. SDE uses printed textbooks and online resources and provides contact classes to communicate with students for clarity. There is a wide variety of students including business professionals, fresh graduates and others from different fields.
As one of the oldest universities in the country, University of Kerala has received many awards, rankings and recognitions from several ranking bodies. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has ranked the university 27th in India. The QS World Ranking has included the University of Kerala among the top 50 universities in India. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) gave the university the highest grade of “A++” with a CGPA of 3.67. The university has also been ranked in the Top 25 Universities survey conducted by Higher Education Review magazine. The University is also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Distance Education Bureau (UGC-DEB).

The admission process for University of Kerala is given below.
Step 1: Students are instructed to go through the admission details in the website (http://www.ideku.net/) of School of Distance Education, University of Kerala.
Step 2: Choosing the preferred program and checking the eligibility requirements. After that, candidates can finish the registration after logging in.
Step 3: Filling out the application form by completing the fee payment through the online portal.
Step 4: Admission confirmation from university after verification of all the details.
University of Kerala School of Distance Education conducts three types of examinations. Theory Tests, Practical Tests, Viva. It depends on the type of course you have chosen. Theory tests will consist of multiple choice questions, short answer questions and long answer questions.
SDE’s Controller of Examinations will announce the examination dates through websites, newspapers and SMS and the University provides designated centers across India. Students can choose the exam centers according to their convenience.
