Affiliated University established in the year 1987 is recognized by UGC under 2(f) and 12(b). Has achieved a distinctive academic profile and a cultural identity of its own and the University is named after great Kannada writer Shri Kuvempu. Interestingly, the features of its identity seem to have emerged from the multifaceted personality of Kuvempu, the great doyen of Kannada literature, a Jnanpith award and one among the most significant cultural figures of modern India.
Kuvempu University Distance Education is offering higher education through Distance Mode and is another milestone of the University. Kuvempu University is to help the student community in their zeal for pursuing Graduate and Postgraduate studies. The necessity of the distance education is to accommodate a larger number of students, who wanted seats for P.G. studies but could not be accommodated in regular programs.
University offers various Graduate and Postgraduate programs through its DDE to interested students. The Degrees offered by the Directorate of Distance Education are equivalent to that of regular degrees. More than 15,000 learners took admission to the various courses offered through the DDE and have been satisfied with the courses, course material, counseling /orientation programs and practical conducted in the Institution and its various study centers.
Exams were conducted on time and the results were given soon after the exams to help the learners get placements of their choice. The DDE provides quality education to the individuals who are keen to take up higher education, for the discontinued who could not take up regular education, homemakers and employees who want to improve and enhance their knowledge. The Directorate of Distance Education is also offering certain need based specialized courses in collaboration with various organizations and study centers.
Kuvempu University is recognized by the University Grants Commission Act i.e. UGC and holds accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council i.e. NAAC.
The UGC Distance Education Council also recognises the distance learning courses provided by the Directorate of Distance Education.
Kuvempu University is also approved by NCTE (National Council of Teacher Education) and BCI (Bar Council of India).
According to the World University Ranking website, Kuvempu University has a country rank of 215 and a world rank of 7396 as of 2016.

The Directorate of Distance Education offers post graduate scholars a fifty percent cost discount on any postgraduate diploma programs.
To be admitted, non-resident Indians must pay an additional amount upto Rs.10,000 on top of the usual program fees.

Graduate Programs
Scholars who have successfully completed BA/ BSc/ BCom/ BBA/ BBM/ BEd/ BTech/ BSc (Agriculture) / BSc (Home Science) degree at an authorized university.

Scholars who have passed the ITI/JOC (vocational course at any recognized institute in Karnataka) or the 12th Standard or it’s equivalent or in pre university level are also eligible.

Pass in 12th Standard or equivalent (or) in pre-university level in Science and scholars who have passed the ITI/JOC (vocational course at any recognized institute in Karnataka) are also eligible
MSc
Candidates who have earned BE/ BSc/ BTech/ BSc (Agriculture) / BSc (Home Science) degree or equivalent of any UGC recognized institute
MA Education
Minimum of forty percent of the grades for the three year undergraduate MA in education program must come from an authorized university.
PG Diploma Courses
Any undergraduate degree from a university that has been accredited.
At Kuvempu University the Directorate of Distance Education assesses examinations based on internal assessment and end term examination. Internal assessment includes Internal Assessment Marks and Practical/Viva-Voce marks which may vary from 20-30 percent, it depends on the university, and the rest weightage is of end term examination. Learners can apply online for their examinations and must print out their examination application form Time table and Hall Ticket, which is essential for distance education learners, and the learners without hall ticket are strictly prohibited to give exams at the authorized study centers.
