Founded in the year 1978, Anna University is renowned for its technical education programs. It is named after the honourable late Dr. C.N. Annadurai, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the university embarked on a journey to embrace global education trends by introducing distance education through the Centre for Distance Education (CDE) initiative in 2007. The primary objective and main motive of the CDE was to offer high-quality education to the students and learns across the nation all over the world who are aspire to continue their studies but face constraints or difficulties that prevent them from pursuing traditional degrees. At the Centre for Distance Education, Anna University, the examination pattern comprises two main components they need to keep in mind is that firstly: internal assessment and end-term examination. Each course carries a maximum of 100 marks, with 20% allocated for internal assessment conducted by the university throughout the semester. Secondly The remaining 80% will be assessed through the end-term examination.
As of 2024, the Centre for Distance Education, Anna University offers options for loans and EMI facilities to students.
Anna University’s Centre for Distance Education conducts contact classes will be spanning 12 days, held on alternative weekends, and that will be on a fixed timetable. A minimum attendance of 50% at these contact classes is mandatory for every students to be eligible for the end-term examination.
